5 Fashion Faves…Breton Shorts

Just when you thought you’d had Breton tops up to the ears (and we’re not even in full blown summer yet,) I thought it might be just the right time to talk Breton shorts.

There’s something about the Breton short that has me coming over all Audrey Hepburn. Just popping a pair of those little suckers on has me immediately dreaming of the South of France, passing the summer swanning from cafe bar to beach on the back of a Vespa, with a good dose of Rose wine chucked in. If you know the cut of your jib…or at least your shorts, you will be familiar with the Breton style – high waisted with a touch of a flare here or a pleat there.

In reality my Breton shorts are more likely to be seen tromping up the King’s Road trying to entertain teen daughter with a little window shopping, or schlepping a small boy up a hill in Surrey, chasing our mad mongrel.

So here are my top 5.

1. Loving these Kenya Blue Shorts by Thierry Colson at one of my favorite online shopping destinations ModeWalk. They have a vintage vibe without really trying very hard.

2. If Roksanda Ilincic can’t make a pair of Breton shorts look sexy then it’s game over. Luckily her canny nack with vivid hues and impeccable tailoring has come up with these beauties in wool crepe.

3. These Saloni block print shorts have the geometric trend nailed.

4. Carven’s paisley print shorts have that retro vibe going on. I’m pairing mine with my Supergas and a plain tee and hopping on my bike for a spin on the promenade or the boardwalk. You can read about my Superga obsession right here.

5. Finally this floral jacquard pair from Stella McCartney makes the line up simply because I’m itching to get the jacket too and work that full on matchy matchy shorts suit thing.
