Lulu Guinness on 25 years in the business.
Last night I popped into the Conde Nast College of Fashion & Design to a members event held by The Industry London where Lulu Guinness sat down to shoot the breeze with Hilary Alexander. Lulu’s creative designs are legendary, so it’s no surprise to learn that this year she is celebrating 25 successful years in the fickle fashion industry.
Surrounded by an audience of fash-industry observers, Hilary Alexander proceeded to get the goss on how it all started for Lulu, back in the day when filofax was our bible, and social media was but a speck of stardust in Mark Zuckerberg’s eye.
We heard all about the original ‘big idea’, through to working on diffusion lines in a right-idea-wrong-time kind of way, celeb fans and how her creative nous just keeps on giving. I’m guessing it’s a lot of fun to work with this lady.
One thing I learnt from the evening, apart from the fact that the new season designs are as quirky and desirable as ever, was that Ms Guinness can sure sell a product.
Lulu Guinness … sales skills masterclass
I figure if her design business ever folds, she would be an outright hit on QVC… look at these moves…
A great event – thanks to The Industry London for setting it up and Conde Nast College of Fashion & Design for hosting.
