Who’d have guessed that luxury shoe and accessories guru Charlotte Olympia and I had so much in common?
My two favourite worlds collided this week when I attended the launch of her new limited edition capsule collection for Veuve Clicquot at the ‘Lovely Bubbly’ event.
Were the planets aligning just so that day? Did I happen to rub my lucky rabbit foot thrice to conjure up such a divine happenstance? Nope, it was good old fashioned creative synergy.
The shoe designer and Veuve Clicquot have paired up to create a collection inspired by my favourite tipple, just in time for the Polo season’s top event, the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup on July 21st.
In the delightful setting of London’s Connaught Hotel, I was whisked through a detailed account of the runners and riders in this collection, with glass of fizz in hand – ‘natch!
Many of your Charlotte Olympia faves are here but with a champagne twist. Using the world-renowned Yellow Label and Rose Cuvee champagnes as her inspiration, and with a soupcon of the inimitable Olympia wit we know and love, the pieces on offer are most definitely in the show stopper department.
Number one on my hit list is a pair of La Grande Dames which have a couple of my mantras embroidered on the heels.
That gal Charlotte Olympia cracks me up sometimes…
The Isadora heels, the Miranda wedges and Kitty Flats come in an appropriate Yellow Label hue.
The clever use of cork on the Serena nd Dolly heels, the Carmen wedge and again, the Kitty flats, is striking and they all have a very summery vibe
I also love the bubble detail on the Desi slingbacks and Carmen wedges. These have ‘Summer Season’ written all over them. These babies could take you from Henley right the way across the pond through to Labour day without having to stop in the Hamptons for a cocktail. On second thoughts, maybe you do want to be stopping there for a cocktail…especially if its Twilight Thursday’s at the Wolffer Estate Vineyard.
There are also genius touches to the bags on offer. The Pandora – which is my current favourite clutch, comes in a ‘Bubbly’ version as well as an appropriately named ‘Bouzy’ pink.
The collection is available from July 1st exclusively at the Charlotte Olympia Mayfair and Manhattan stores, as well as Harrods.
The Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup takes place at Cowdray Park Polo Club on Sunday 21st July.
