Embellished sweater … what’s the scoop?

You’ve gotta love a trend that just won’t budge. Take the embellished sweater trend for example, it’s been bubbling around for the past few seasons, quite merrily reincarnating itself with different nuances each time the temperature gauge spikes or drops; but it just keeps coming back for more.

I’m a bit of an advocate for anything with a bit of bling at the best of times, but thanks to our ongoing fascination with all things sparkly, bringing dull wardrobe workhorses new life, then I’m definitely all over this trend again for Fall. As I type I’ve just noticed in fact that I’m currently decked out in my fave J.Crew embellished sweatshirt… so clearly am already practicing what I preach.

Whereas last winter we were dabbling in sweaters with embellished bibs and such, this time around we’re going all in and being treated to all over ornamentation. Think baubles and sparkles front and back, and sleeves and all. The only snag in this whole genius all-over-gilding is that depending on the quality of your blinged up piece, you may well fall into the trauma of losing a few trimmings along the way. The best way to maintain your beloved twinkling look, is to ensure you keep that little pouch of extra glitz bits which always comes with an embellished item.

Embellished sweater … how to wear it.

The embellished sweater is the perfect little pick me up for all your lacklustre work looks. I’m big into grey this winter, so when I spotted this Boden embellished sweater I had it immediately paired up in my mind with some cool charcoal pants from J.Crew. These Campbell capri’s come in a great stretch plaid which work equally well with loafers or heels.

You definitely need to invest in a cape or oversized shawl this upcoming season to keep up with the fash pack. I spotted this Thakoon Addition hooded cape on the Intermix site – delicious!

I’ve been drooling over the new Whistles AW14 looks this week, (I’ve already got a few items which drop later in the year ear marked for my closet) but also love these Tilla point mules.

A little accessorizing works with an embellished sweater, but rein it in… a little goes a long way. I’ve added this J.Crew posey bracelet, an Alexander McQueen scarf and this fab Alexander Wang calf hair bag.
