Front row at J.Mendel New York Fashion Week

You’ve gotta love a front row seat at New York fashion week – armed with my distinctly ‘A’ list shopping buddy, I learnt the art of the seat upgrade at the J.Mendel Spring Summer 11 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Scooping a spare ticket from my Chanel clad buddy, we teetered into our assigned seats for the 9am show –  (yes that did mean getting up at 5am to ensure hubs was driven to the station so that au pair could do the school run….). But alas we were faced with a bank of large portly suited gentleman (buyers clearly) in the row in front of us blocking our view. My buddy – a seasoned show pro, took matters into her own hands and within two shakes of a lambs tail we were front row, slap bang next to Robert Verdi.

Verdi was charming and we discussed twittering about each other -yes he had tweeted about Notes from a Stylist and yes, Notes from a Stylist had tweeted back her thanks. The niceties done, we sat back to watch a flurry of gorgeous gowns head down the runway.

The georgette and crepe de chine looks oozed sumptuous summer cocktail parties in the Hampton’s, whilst the fox and lamb bolero’s smacked of Fall nights drawing in at the end of an Indian summer in the Cape.

With a color palette of grey, blush, nude and peach, every look was met with ‘ooh’s’ and appreciative ‘aah’s’ from the select crowd.

Andre Leon Talley looked suitably impressed – or at least he wasn’t grimacing – it’s hard to tell what that guy is thinking… whilst my buddy circled a few looks that will be sure to be in her closet by this time next year….
