Jacquard Shorts … what’s the scoop?
I’ve never met a pair of shorts I didn’t like… oh, apart from those dodgy skinny bermudas that I’ve seen appearing in stores of late. But generally, shorts are my summer fail safe on the dress code front. Let’s face it they’re practical, versatile and easy to dress up or down; especially when looking at the new slew of jacquard shorts with their cute 50’s vibe. Perfect for the weekend, excellent for the office when paired with a blazer, and bang on trend for summer cocktails when you add statement heels and a silky slip top.
I nabbed these blue shorts from J.Crew a while back (similar here) and have been willing the sun to come out so I could road test them. I paired them (on the one sunny day this week) with a linen v-neck sweater and statement jewels .
There’s something about a slouchy knit with a pair of shorts that I can’t resist. If you looked in my closet you would see piles of the same kind of oversized sweaters, thin knit, thick knit, v-neck, round neck… all in different colour ways. I blame being brought up in Cardiff where the only reasonable shop back in the day was Benetton and we covetted all those beautifully folded knits in a zillion colours. Although it’s fair to say mine are not so expertly folded, I dare say I’m nearly there on nailing the colour fest thing.
The jacket is from The Kooples – my go-to place for jackets with a twist at a reasonable price. The metallic sandals are Zara from a few seasons ago – but there are plenty of more on-trend metallic sandals out there this year – try these Zara ones or these from J.Crew. The sunnies are Oakley.
