Luxe sportswear … the skinny
If your idea of luxe sportswear is peppered with images of Ali G back in the day, then think again. Luxe sportswear has come a long way over the past few seasons. It’s not all about the sweatpants and high tops. The ‘this season’ take on the trend is all about relaxed separates in luxury fabrics, which are perfect for anyone’s weekend ready armory.
The clue to cracking sports luxe is in the title. Whatever you opt for make sure it’s a luxe version of that item. Got your eye on an oversized sweatshirt? Make sure you snag one with embroidery or embellishment. Fancy yourself in a bomber jacket? Opt for a satin or silk one to work the luxe idea to the max. Once you’ve got that concept pegged, the rest is easy.
Luxe sportswear … how to wear it
For me the ideal luxe sportswear moment has got to be the weekend. Those slouchy silhouettes and that laid back 90’s vibe is the perfect get-up for a spin around the mall, or a saunter to your favourite coffee shop.
When pairing your luxe sportswear pieces don’t go too crazy on the oversized game. It’s easy to throw on too much and end up looking like an extra from some bad work out video. Counterbalance a large sweatshirt with a slimmer fitting tapered pant for a pleasing silhouette, or switch the look around by doing a looser fit pant paired with a form fitting sweater.
I’m a big fan of the bomber jacket this season as my go-to collarles jacket. Track one down with a little bedazzling, like this one from Topshop, to add some extra punch to your look. Complete the whole ensemble with some sneakers, I’m loving these Stella McCartney ‘is it a sneaker or is it an espadrille?’ babies, and a slouchy tote or backpack.
