Pleated skirt obsessions

The pleated skirt to fall for.

Granted I’m more often seen sauntering around in trousers rather than a skirt, but when we’re talking a metallic pleated skirt, then I’m easily persuaded into getting my pins out and braving the autumnal chill. The pleated skirt is having a bit of a moment this season, and when you consider how easily you can work it with sneakers for a laid back look or pointy flats for an office-ready look, you can kind of see why it’s versatility is winning people over.

One issue people have with a pleated skirt and a midi length one at that is that it comes over all mumsy. But once you start pairing it up with funky accessories it begins to develop a personality of its own. Add to that the fact that this season there are a ton of these cuties in all sorts of metallics, fine jersey knits, faux leathers and even velvet (well done Topshop for that one!) then the mumsy factor begins to melt into insignificance.

I paired this cute Zara pleated skirt with a statement knit by Mira Mikati, my trusty Stan Smiths, and this fun Paula Cadermatori top handle tote (similar here on sale at The Outnet). Sunnies are by Dior.

Pleated skirt… where to shop.

When looking for your dream pleated skirt, it’s worth bearing in mind that some are pretty high waisted so not a winner for those of us with a bit of a tum or short waisted. To counteract this, try a little tucking in with your top to create the illusion of a slimmer waistline (like I’ve done above). Also opt for a skirt length with a hem that falls on a flattering part of your calf… i.e. the slimmest bit, and you will be off to the races. Here are some of my top pleated skirt picks in stores right now… click to shop.
