Adding a pop of autumn colour.

If like me, half of you is still clinging to the joy of lazy sunny days and warm summer nights, but you have half an eye on all the delicious new autumn attire that’s filling up the stores right now. Then it’s time to begin to segue through to the new season through the medium of colour.

Last week we hot-footed it over to New York to drop no.1 son for his freshers week at NYU. It’s still flipping boiling over on the East Coast so while I was still sporting shorts, I did manage to throw in a pop of autumn colour with this cute Prada bag I’d snapped up from the new season edit at Net-a-Porter. The lingering city heat also gave me a chance to break out this gorgeous Caroline Constas top from Intermix which has a touch of the old dancing lady emoji about it. More of her lovely stuff here.

Autumn Colour… what to look for.

For AW16 some of the classic muted tones are back – for blues think navy and teal, for greens, look for army greens. Pink is a big player for the upcoming season – whether you like the feistiness of fuchsia or the more mellow vibes of a blush pink, be sure to invest in something in that hue.

Red is an autumnal fave for accessories, whilst white heels are also having a bit of a moment. If you can’t sway that far into 80’s nostalgia, then have a think about new colour pairings which are on the cards. Yellow and chocolate play well together in a 70’s kind of way as do emerald and gold. My favourite colour pairing for the season has got to be purple and navy… I was a big fan of navy and black last winter, I’m thinking an injection of purple is the perfect way to lift that look for the new season.

If the thought of new colour palettes is beginning to scare you, ease yourself in gently with an accessory or two. Here are some of my picks below.
