Trust the French to come up with the style nouse to recognize a classy photo when they saw one. Richard Avedon’s famous ‘Dovima with the Elephant’ sold recently for an astounding 841,000 Euros ($1.1m) at Christie’s in Paris.
The model, clad in a Dior evening gown designed by Yves Saint-Laurent, was snapped at Cirque d’Hiver way back when in 1955 – divine!
And the winner is… after a heated bidding war, a rep from the house of Dior scooped the treasured shot at the record price.
Proceeds of the auction go to The Richard Avedon Foundation in New York.
