Shredded denim … what’s the story?
I’ve always been a little partial to distressed denim at the best of times, so when the shredded denim started hitting stores this season my interest was piqued. After a major spring clean and closet review last month… where a bunch of my stuff found a new home at the Buy My Wardrobe HQ for re-sale, I came to the earth shattering conclusion that I did indeed have enough blue denim to sink a battleship – or at least fill a small boutique.
With this in mind, my quest to nail the shredded denim trend had me scoping out the perfect pair of pastel pink jeans for spring. As usual my shopaholic tendencies and the lure of the online sales led me down the garden path on my mission. AG skinny fit ankle zip jeans – too peachy, J Brand low rise delicately shredded jeans – too clingy – perhaps when I’ve worked off all those Easter eggs they might be a winner? But then like the holy grail, the perfect pair emerged in the shape of Acne Studio boyfriend jeans. They have just enough slouch mixed with the right measure of shredding and in the most perfect pastel pink tone you’ve ever seen.
The key to making a pair of shredded jeans work for more than just your play time is to pair them with sharply tailored classics. A blazer for the office with pointy flats can work, and maybe a silk top and silk trench for cocktail hour…
I paired my shredded denim with a classic J.Crew tippi sweater which comes out every season in different colours and is a definite wardrobe staple. I added this in your face MSGM patterned biker jacket … more spring bikers here.
Shredded denim … how to wear it 3 ways.
To be fair I’m not sure that everyone could get away with shredded denim for the office – but if you have a relaxed work code you can dress up a pair of these babies with ease.
