Spring pastels … what to wear this week

Spring pastels … cheer up your winter gloom

If what they are reporting on the news channels is true, this is Blue Monday, or the worst day of this New Year. It’s something about being 2 weeks away from payday, and 2 weeks since we were enjoying Christmas, the days are short and the weather dull, so Blue Monday it is. To thwart the onset of such negative vibes, it’s the perfect time to look to spring pastels and the new pieces which are heading our way to perk up our closets.

Spring pastels come in all shapes and sizes – ladylike dresses, relaxed sporty separates and oodles of accessories. You can either cherry pick a few items to bolster up your grey winter duds or go all out and try a head to toe turn.

Spring pastels … how to wear them.

The great thing about the new season spring pastels, is that are available in almost any thing you could care to cast your attention to. Fancy a loose cut blazer like this great French Connection one? Knock yourself out, and pair it with equally spring-inducing polka dots. With price points on the high street pieces being totally affordable, you can either snag a new collection piece, or rattle through the last of the sale rack bargains for a designer piece.

When looking to wear any lighter hue, it’s always good to think about your body shape. If you have mixed proportions – top half bigger than bottom half, or bottom half a tad larger than the top half – then opt for a darker tone of your spring pastels on the larger part. Place the lighter toned item on the smaller half, and hey-presto! you have fooled the eye into thinking that you have everything perfectly in proportion.

I’m a big fan of a skinny pant, and these Moschino baby-pink ones caught my eye. They are the perfect masculine cut meets feminine polish, and when not pairing them for a smarter look with a blazer, I’ll be working mine with an oversized cashmere knit and brogues for the weekend.
