The Check Jacket you need this season.

Even though we might be in the midst of Christmas prep frenzy, let’s not forget that we still need to keep a weather eye on the trends out there in order to claim maximum Fashionista points right up to the end of the year. So this week we are scoping out the check jacket, a wardrobe staple which will see you through this season and a few seasons to come for sure.

I snapped up a Mango check jacket early in the season, but it kind of swamped me so I was on the lookout for something a little more fitted to replace it in the run-up to Christmas. I spotted this gorgeous Anine Bing one on the lovely Emma Thatcher from A Style Album, it had just the right cut, the perfect pop of red detailing and didn’t blow my budget. Finding it was sold out everywhere the only thing to do was trust the savvy shoppers at Harvey Nichols. The team tracked down my perfect fit and presto I had the item in my hot sweaty little mitts before Santa has even left the North Pole.

I’m wearing it here with my trusty J.Crew girlfriend jeans (similar here), a Donna Ida slogan knit and Gucci slippers. Also, this fab Prada bag which doubles as a purse or evening bag as required.

As I found out, it’s best to find a jacket that fits in the shoulders lest you end up looking like one of Santa’s elves wearing grown-up clothes. I know there’s also a trend for an over-sized blazer, but being on the petite side, it’s probably not a look that works for me. There are all sorts of check and plaid patterns out there. If you are more on the diminutive side, stick to that fashion rule of always opting for a smaller sized pattern, but if you are statuesque then you can carry off any size you fancy.

The Check Jacket… where to shop.

Karen  Millen SS18

If you fancy adding a check jacket to your outfit armoury there are a pile around in stores, but the trend is set to carry on through to next season so watch out for new drops from late January onwards – I’m totally loving the Karen Millen SS18 one I spotted at the recent press day. You can nab one in anything from Prince of Wales check, houndstooth, plaid and all sorts, but here are some of our other faves… click the images to shop…

I’ve added this post to the amazing #SaturdayShareLinkup run by lovely Catherine from Not Dressed as Lamb. Pop over there to discover some other lovely reads this weekend.
