Tuesday’s Trends… Dreamy Draping

Ladies – it’s time to meet your NBF for the season – dreamy draping.

Yes, I know that the Darth Vader of draping, Rick Owens, has been doing it for years. And those guru’s of ‘gathering’ over at Helmut Lang, don’t get out of bed unless there’s ruching on the agenda. But this season, everyone’s at it, and much against the run of play, I find I’m not averse to it.

The great thing about the draping gig this season, is that it’s not all about a single piece. From skirts to tops, day dresses to cockatil shifts, a little drapery action can go a long way.

More good news – drapery comes in an array of lust worthy fabrics just in time for the party season. Think silks, satins and fine knits as well as velvets, leathers and metallics.

To rock this trend, use the drape to mask any problem areas. Bothered by a little bulge in the tummy area? No problem; grab a little draped top and pair with a pencil skirt for office appropriate. Or work a draped skirt on your bottom half to disguise lumpy legs.

What with Thanksgiving and the whole Holiday season ahead of us; the smart chick should jump on this trend sharpish, if only to keep those lumpy bits camouflaged till spring.

Here’s a bunch of drapey dresses to peek at:
