5 New Year Style Resolutions.
The New Year is always a great time for shaking things up and starting afresh. But when it comes to style it’s also the perfect time to remind ourselves of the old favourites which work time and time again. This year I’m resolving to try pairing the old with the cherry-picked new and on-trend pieces without blowing my budget With this in mind here are my 5 New Year style resolutions which are a mash-up of making the old new again and adding a little style umami from the new season.
First up I’m resolving to wear more colour this year. Yes, we could all be very grown up and stick to our good old neutral palette of monochrome faves, but there is a lot of colour heading our way for SS19, so why not embrace a bit of it and live a little. For the current chillier climes think reds, army greens, clarets and rusts, but come the warmer weather you can add pops of Crayola brights or ice cream sorbets.
Hush dress, Aquazzura heels, J.Crew jacket, Manu Atelier bag (different colour here).
Another thing I’m going to try to embrace is a trend which is totally a ‘grown-up’ one in my little head, and that’s to wear more dresses this year. What with all those delicious midi and maxi numbers out there which look utterly flattering, not to mention summer’s shirt and shift dresses or broderie options, the dress is an easy throw-it-on-and-not-think-about-what-to-wear-with-it choice worth making.
J.Crew knit (different colour here) & chinos, Tod’s Loafers, Acne Studios oversized cardigan.
One New Year style resolution for 2019 I kind of started to eek into my outfit choices toward the end of 2018 is to wear more monotone as a go-to daily uniform. Being slightly on the shorter side of Amazonian, it’s a look that has you feeling a tad more linear, nay even taller, and what’s not to love about that.
Anine Bing blazer, Donna Ida knit, J.Brand selena jeans, Gucci slippers, Prada bag.
I’m also resolving to work a little more matchy-matchy into my accessories this year. Think shoes and bags which match and even pick out a pop of colour in the outfit you are wearing. I give you exhibit A above – see if you can see how many times a pop of red appears…
Cleverly Wrapped cashmere.
Finally, one of my big resolutions is to spend less on mindless on-trend tat and invest in pieces which will last. Think cashmere sweaters, silk or satin staples in the form of separates as well as good quality classic bags and shoes which won’t need switching up to the latest trend come next season. With tailored denim heading our way for SS19 all these will work a treat for perking up my everyday uniform without much effort.
So those are my 5 New Years Style Resolutions, have you got any you might add to the list?
