Culottes … Wednesday’s wish list

Culottes … yes, I’m being completely serious

If like me, your recollection of culottes was some dire 1980’s era when your mother forced you into a pair of itchy tweed culottes to head to Aunty Marjorie’s house for Sunday lunch, then hold off on the panic attack. This time around culottes are here to be our friend. They’ve come a long way since those scary wear-with-platforms kind of days.

Today’s culottes are super sleek, come in an array of simple flattering cuts, and in a bunch of fabrics which will not have you reaching for the Oilatum anti-itching cream as soon as you’ve put them on. I fell in love with the blush culottes from the Tibi Spring 14 catwalk, they scream sassy spring time look.

culottes - wednesday's wish list

Topshop Culottes, Alice & Olivia striped crop top,  J.Crew denim jacket, Rebecca Minkoff bag,  Alexander Wang brogues.

For the office

Topshop Culottes, Topshop textured bubble crepe tee, Mango jacquard bomber jacket, Alexander Wang pumpsMango tote bag.

Topshop Culottes, Iris & Ink duchesse satin top, Hallhuber leopard print jacket, Whistles clutch,   Pierre Hardy pumps.

Culotttes … how to wear them

To rock a pair of culottes all week long think crop tops and short hemmed jackets. Opt for a pair in an opulent silk or satin which you can dress down by day, but dress up for evening use.

When trying on your culottes in the store, check where the hemline hits – for an uber flattering look your hemline needs to hit on a slim part of your leg – either just above the knee, just below the knee or midi length below the widest part of your calf.
