Pleated skirt … spring must-have.
If there’s one thing you buy this spring to perk up your closet, make it a pleated skirt. The new slew of pleated skirts in town are all about the accordian pleat. We are talking super slim pleat details which flatter the figure, and flip about in a devil-may-care manner which is just about perfect for the spring sunshine we are enjoying right now.
The pleated skirt du jour comes in an array of lengths, so there’s something here for everyone. If you hanker after more of a Mad Men nifty fifties vibe, opt for a midi pleated skirt. Or work more of a preppy look with a shorter above the knee number.
The pleated skirt was hot on the runway for spring 14, but luckily, designer price points don’t have to come into the mix as the high street brands have jumped on the trend, and are punting out well priced skirts for us regular folk.
Pleated skirt … how to wear it.
As with any full skirt, the pleated skirt is making a statement. Don’t start adding further fluffy accents to your look for fear of looking like a dog’s dinner. Keep the rest of your outfit simple and paired down.
I love the flirty vibe of this J.Crew pleated skirt – it’s kind of similar to the designer label ones with the sunburst colour accent, but at a much more pleasing price point. I’ve paired mine with a versatile Mango luxe tee, this fab T by Alexander Wang leather-sleeved denim jacket (on sale at The Outnet) and some nautical striped slippers.
If you’ve kept your look minimal, the flippy accordian pleat detail of the skirt becomes the major eye candy. To finish the look throw in a few pops of spring colour – like this Chan Luu scarf and a little Bauble Bar bejeweling.
