Scuba dress … what’s the deal?
If anyone had told me this time last year that I would be entertaining the idea of wearing a scuba dress for my work week, I would probably have thought they’d been celebrating Cinco de Mayo too liberally. I’m not sure if it’s down to the practical nature of the fabric, or it’s warming qualities in this changeable transitioning spring to summer climate, but it seems to me that this could be the perfect choice for an early spring outfit investment.
If the closest you’ve got to trying on a scuba garment is a dodgy wetsuit on some learn to windsurf weekend in the Outer Hebrides, when sartorial elegance took second place to frostbite survival, then it’s time to look again. This season the scuba dress is just one of the divine pieces up for grabs. Thanks to clever creative pattern play and attention to simple shape work, a scuba dress is suddenly a thing of beauty. No more camel toe woes, no more ‘does my bum look big in this’ trauma, a sculpted scuba dress can hold all your fat bits in place and have you looking va-va-voom in no time.
Scuba dress … how to wear it.
I love the floral pattern on this Warehouse dress, who knew that ladylike and neoprene could be used in the same sentence? I’ve paired it with this sweet J.Crew denim jacket and Mango cardigan.
With thoughts turning to another tube strike in London this week, I figured a little practical dressing may be in order. So besides the ever practical scuba dress (rain showers be damned!) I’m opting for classic flat penny loafers from Mango and a Rebecca Minkoff backpack, just in case it’s time to jump on a Boris Bike to make my way around this weeks press days.
