Wide leg pants
Not being blessed with an Amazonian physique, I’ve always been a bit averse to wide leg pants, but then I saw these cuties at J.Crew and decided I was going to try and figure out how to wear them come hell or high water this season. I was heading to a preview dinner at Jason Atherton’s new Japanese restaurant Sosharu in the same week, which gave me the perfect opportunity to get my stylist thinking cap on to road test these on trend trews.
I’ve been completely obsessed with all things navy this winter, so I paired my new wide leg pants with this J.Crew cashmere v-neck and leather jacket. Throwing on this super soft Burberry cape for extra warmth points and toting my L.K. Bennett bucket bag (last season, but similar here and here)
The key to pulling off the wide leg pants trend (even as a shorty) is to get your hem length bang on right, and pair with similar monotone pieces for a sleek paired down look which restrains the over-blousy impact of the trousers. Think fitted classic tops to counteract the wow factor of the wide leg pants. Also, I’m a great believer in pointy shoes for wide leg looks – these heels are Jimmy Choo metallics.
Wide leg pants to shop
There are bundles of wide leg pants out there from high-end designer to high street. I would stick to neutral tones although there are a few patterned ones to be had. That being said these beauties pack a heavyweight punch so prints are an added layer to the story – if you’re statuesque and looking to make an impact then go for it, but for those of us on the petite side, stick to the simple look to pull off this trend with grace.
