Pleated skirt edit:
If there’s one thing you need to embrace this winter season, it’s a longer length pleated skirt. Whether you opt for a leather number – which the fashion editors are all over right now, or some other sumptuous fabric like this silk Tibi one, it’s the perfect elegant daywear look.
For me the mid length pleated skirt has all the hallmarks of the graceful garb of times gone by. Think Marilyn Monroe or Grace Kelly rocking a full skirt paired with kitten heels and a figure hugging knit. These days we like to work our 50’s icon looks with a little more of a modern edge, and as a result this week’s edit is all about how to wear this piece with some other top trends out there.
How to wear the pleated skirt.
The pleated skirt is a genius body-shape booster by virtue of it’s nipped in waist. Add to that the natural volume produced by the pleats and you have some serious va-va-voom factor going on. This look is a great one to work if you have a fuller figure as you can mess with your proportions. There is one caveat however, and that is all about height If you are on the diminutive side opt for a shorter version to avoid looking swamped. On the taller side? Go for a midi version and enjoy the full Madmen effect.
It’s not necessarily a look just for the girly-girl types either. With the influx of the slouchy sweatshirt as a micro trend over the past few seasons, choose this as the perfect tomboy partner for a luxe pleated skirt. This Brian Lichtenberg sweatshirt hits all the right style notes, and works a treat with the more delicate Valentino heels and chunky Topshop shearling jacket.
