Blanket Poncho … what’s the scoop?
If you’ve had your head buried in a sand dune over the past few months, you might not have spotted the upcoming plethora of blanket poncho heaven which is heading our way this autumn. Thanks to the likes of Burberry and their much coveted monogrammed blanket poncho which Cara & Jourdan rocked down the runway last fash week, there are a slew of deliciously sumptuous snuggly ponchos out there for the chilly weather to come.
The idea of the blanket poncho is to merely wrap yourself up in yet another cozy layer to keep the winter weather at bay. Not content with layering our tanks with our shirts with our sweaters with our biker jackets, it’s now time to layer a cape-stylie poncho on top too. Got it? Good.

Blanket Poncho … how to wear it.
The best thing about a blanket poncho is that it is simply an extra layer. Don’t sweat the small stuff about what goes with what, and which layer should be where. Bung it on over the rest of your outfit and Bob is your proverbial uncle.
Having said that, if the rest of you is looking a little Michelin man with all those layers, then it’s time to rethink the layering game. Thanks to designers now using much more techie savvy fabrics, a number of the new season pieces are way lighter and less bulky than they were last season – making slimline layering an easy game to play.
I’ve opted for some oxblood pieces to layer with this lovely Topshop blanket poncho. Knitwear is a big ticket item this winter – invest well in a lovely piece and it will pay you back over the years on the old ‘cost-per-wear’ equation. This Joseph wrap-front roll-neck from Matches is just dreamy.
I love a great capri pant at this time of year, throw in the fact that these J.Crew capris are in the colour of the season – Oxblood – and I’m all over them.
I’ve added these Vince calla booties which are a nice mix between daytime and dressy-uppy. I’m also loving the bucket bags which are landing in stores right now. I always carry tons too much in a bag at the best of times, I think this Mackage bucket bag is going to make that habit hard to break, but will look great.
I defy you to get through a high street store this season without at least trying on one of these awesome floppy hats – maybe a little too boho for some, but if you love that hippy chick vibe, then this Topshop floppy fedora is perfect for you.
Pearls are back in for jewellery choices for fall. Try layering a few of these J.Crew long necklaces for maximum luxe impact.
I’m also a sucker for any sort of gloves or wrist warmers. These Jonathan Adler fair isle cuties hit the perfect autumn style note.
