Cambridge Satchels at Harvey Nichols

cs12Cambridge Satchels have been on the edge of my radar for the past six months. Popping up on blogs and casually thrown across an outfit of the day post (OOTD) by top bloggers and celebs alike…cross body ‘natch. It wasn’t until I popped in to Harvey Nic’s on Friday that I’d actually seen them in the flesh.

The store was in the midst of an event where you could not only snag one of these cute bags in a range of colours from neon through to pastel, but they had also smuggled in their top embosser, the lovely Colin, serious professional artisan with all the kit.

Each bag is handmade in Britain and the whole concept was the genius idea of Julie Deane, who wondered what ever happened to those traditional old satchels we used to lug to school as kids. She cleverly harnessed the blogging community into her promotional efforts, and before you could shout “I’ll take one in fluro pink please!” her little idea began to blossom.

She originally thought they would be great for teens, but it seems adults have hopped on the band wagon too. Even the embossing idea itself is gaining traction.

I bought one for my daughter but wasn’t sure about the colour of the font or whether to go for upper or lower case. So Colin tried a little ‘crash test dummy’ embossing until I was happy with the result.

When it comes to personalizing your bag, you can get pretty much anything on there from initials to names. One satchel was even recently embossed with a wedding proposal – now that is old school class!
