Culottes … the skinny.
There’s something about culottes that has me coming over all Audrey Hepburn. I think it’s the idea that you look like you’re wearing a demure skirt, but you could hop on a bike at any given moment and cycle around Montmartre in a 1950’s insouciant stylie.
Culottes are cute and infinitely practical, and thanks to a certain Ms Beckham, who has been championing their cause of late, are actually having rather a moment right now. Throw together these few influences, and the fact that the weather here in London really can’t decide whether it’s summer or not, you have the perfect storm of reasons to wear these beauties.
Culottes … how to wear them.
Culottes generally have a lot of volume about them, so working them in a minimal, paired down fashion is always a winner. When hunting down the perfect culottes for your body type, ensure you find a pair with less waistline pleating if your lower half is on the large side. Instead look for flat front versions to reduce any bulkiness around the waistline. Also be mindful of where the hemline hits. For the most flattering look opt for a hemline which hits at a slimmer part of the calf.
I’ve paired these Acne Studios culottes with this cool navy Mango biker jacket and a J.Crew cami. I always love the simple navy and white palette – these Tibi sandals are divine for a day in the office. I’ve added a Weekend Max Mara necklace … who actually punt out quite cool and price friendly chunky jewellery each season. Some Prism sunnies and a DVF cross-body bag…ideal for that Parisian bike ride…
