Culottes … what to wear this week

Culottes … what’s the scoop?

If like me your memory of culottes involves some awful acrylic retro numbers in a scary psychedelic turquoise print which your mother forced you to wear incessantly one summer… or was that just my mother? Then rest assured, the new season offerings are way more sophisticated, nay covetable and donning one of these spring ready garments will definitely banish all those awful memories (which even years of expensive therapy have failed to dislodge).

Yes people, it’s time to get on the culottes bandwagon with gusto. These cute and super flattering pieces have been sidelined to the back of the fashion cupboard for too long, This spring, there are more varieties of culottes available than ever, in all sorts of cuts, price ranges, lengths and fabrics – there’s definitely something out there for everyone, so here’s how to wear them.

A culotte by definition is a knee-length (or thereabouts) pair of trousers cut with full legs to resemble a skirt. For this season, they seem to be in an array of lengths with designers branding culottes to be anything from shorts to knee length to midi.

Culottes … how to wear them

I love these MiH Jeans chambray culottes, they have a flattering cut and are comfy to wear to boot. Wearing a boxy or cropped jacket with culottes minimizes the voluminous factor and gives the waist a nipped in look, so I’ve added this cute L’Agence bouclé jacket which has a timeless cut and will work well with a bunch of other looks in your spring closet.

Crochet is big for spring/summer – this Simone Rocha crochet trim top give a nod to the trend, whilst these fab Stella McCartney metallic faux leather loafers will see you through to next fall in the style stakes.

Pair the look with this lovely pastel Chan Luu scarf, Topshop satchel and blingy Oscar de la Renta resin ring.
