Denim shorts … your perfect pair.
We’re set for a bit of a heatwave in London this weekend, so it’s time to reach into the back of your closet and hoick your shorts out for their first airing this summer. I like a chino short as much as the next gal, but my uber comfy weekend shorts choice has got to be denim shorts. There’s something about them that whispers ‘I’m not really trying’ but styled correctly, they can look as sassy as hell.
Shorts in general have become a far more acceptable outfit choice from the office through to evening wear, but denim shorts are still slightly too casual to make it any further than a weekend wear choice for that beach or festival you’re headed to.
I’m a big advocate of sizing up on your denim shorts size choice. If you are over 20, there’s no reason why you can’t still rock this look, but be mindful of hem lengths. Ensure your denim shorts have enough coverage to stop you looking like a car-crash-Miley-Cyrus-butt-cheek-toting victim.
Denim Shorts … how to wear them.
I like to wear my denim shorts with oversized shirts. There’s something quite chilled about the look which you can work from a weekend shopping trip with your pals, through to a street cafe lunch once your retail therapy has been done. I also like my denim to have a little distressed factor about them, to make them look lived in.
These J.Crew denim shorts tick the box in terms of the right amount of wear and tear and also a great hem line which doesn’t have me falling into the mutton dressed as lamb camp. I’ve put them together with this snappy Boden casual shirt and cute bomber from Gap.
As the weather warms up it’s time to turn our attention to sandals. I’m loving these flats by Giuseppe Zanotti which are a steal from The Outnet right now.
Keeping to the red theme I’ve matched my accessories to include this fab Chan Luu wrap bracelet, seriously sweet Rebecca Minkoff quilted bag, de rigeur sunnies and a fedora from Anthony Peto.
