Duster coats … transitional treat
I have to fess up to being a bit of a coat hoarder at the best of times, but when new season stock starts hitting the racks, no matter how many times the sensible voice in my head says ‘enough coats already’ I generally still come out of a store with a sparkly new coat in my hot sweaty little hands… it’s just the way it is. So as we muddle through the end of the big freeze, I’ve got my eye on the new slew of coats which are slowly arriving in stores – and specifically duster coats.
Coat is Cos, rollneck sweater Baukjen and hat Inverni.
There’s something about a duster coat which makes my addled shopaholic psyche think that it’s actually more of a cardi than a coat, ergo I’m not actually indulging in yet another unnecessary outerwear layer at all, I am in fact merely adding another transitional layer to any outfit when donning the duster. There’s also the added joy that these cuties are super oversized and can be schlepped on over all your vast woolly pullies with ease.

Technically a duster coat is a woman’s loose, lightweight full-length coat without buttons, of a style originally worn in the 1920s when travelling in an open car. I think this season the term has been used to encompass a bunch of coats with or without buttons which seem to fit the transitional bill. It’s also still chilly out there, so I’m classing this cute Cos coat in the duster category.
The jeans are Current Elliott stiletto jeans, bag Sophie Hulme (more choices here) and boots Acne Studios.
