Easy Pancakes Recipe for Shrove Tuesday
Falcon enamel mug used here for pouring.
Just a quick post to remind us all how to make pancakes with this easy pancakes recipe by Mod Fam Food, which we debuted as a brunch recipe last year, but can easily be adapted in time for tea this Shrove Tuesday. We love an American pancake in our house but you can follow the more traditional recipe below for more pancake flipping fun.
You will need…
For American Style pancakes
140g self-raising flour, sieved
200ml semi-skimmed milk
1 large egg
Pinch salt
1 tsp caster sugar
30g butter for frying
For British Style pancakes
120g plain flour
200ml milk
75ml water
2 large eggs
Pinch of salt
30g butter for frying
Tala cook’s measure, Kenwood mixer
Here’s what to do…
- Whisk the flour, egg, salt and sugar together in a bowl adding the liquid slowly until thick and smooth then leave to stand for a few minutes.
- Heat a little of the butter in a large frying pan until melted, and add spoonfuls of the batter cooking for a few minutes each side until just golden… for larger thinner pancakes in more of a traditional Brit stylie, use one dollop of batter and spread around the whole pan.
- Serve immediately with anything from sugar, chocolate spread, jam and honey for the traditional pancakes or beef it up with berries, fruit, Greek yogurt, and maple syrup or cream for the American style.
Tips…
Add a tsp cinnamon to the batter, and serve with honey and chopped walnuts.
