Farmers market faves

Farmers Market…foodie paradise.

After hitting the local markets whilst on vacay in Turkey, I got that local/organic buzz again last week and headed to my local farmers market in Guildford, to stock  up on some awesome local produce. By chance, we had some buddies from New York over, who were happy to get a taste of a jolly old English market.

Most farmers markets are packed with produce straight from the purveyor, and since we are all getting a little more adventurous in our tastes these days, there are a bunch of quirky things to taste and try.

Farmers Market…London faves.

One of my faves is Broadway Market which runs on Saturdays, tucked into the edge of an East London street between London Fields and the Regent’s Canal. You can shop anything from organic meat, fruit & veg to fresh fish and oysters. The smell of delicious breads and aromas from pop-up short order grilling stalls helps entice you up through the line of stalls. You can also find divine vintage clothing racks to pick through. I was there last winter, but definitely need to head back soon.

Borough Market – runs Wed/Thur/Fri from 10am, Saturday from 8am. It’s close to London Bridge Station in Southwark Street, SE1. Renowned as a foodie haven – definitely turn up hungry…

Brixton Farmers Market – Sundays 10-2, Brixton Station Road. Although with the Brixton medley of markets on offer throughout the week – if it’s jerk chicken and a taste party on your tongue that you’re after, then scope out any of their other market days too.

A world away from the hipsters who frequent the above markets, for a more sedate kind of experience head to Pimlico Road Farmers market. Hidden away in leafy Orange Square, you can find it every Saturday 9am-1pm on the corner of Pimlico Road and Ebury Street, SW1W 8UT. Check out their Facebook page here for a smorgasbord of delicious images.

If you’re more of a rural type, take a peek here at other regional farmers markets.

The market we went to was Guildford Farmers Market, 1st Tuesday of every month, 10-30-3.30pm, High Street, Guildford.
