Girls lunch and gallery snooping

Girls lunch… rustic stylie.

Last week when Ellen (the taller half of our style duo Lobler & Delaney) was in town catching up with her old crew, we took time out to spend a fab girls lunch in the beautiful rustic setting of our artist friend Colette’s home.

Whilst Ellen & I bashed out ideas for our upcoming new look website and blog, Colette got to work at the Aga, and roped in some kids to pick and prepare the delicious summer ripe vegetables from her garden which we were about to scoff for lunch.

girls lunchColette’s tableware is vintage but you can find similar artisanal enamelware here.

I’m normally used to prepping food in my contemporary Poggenpohl kitchen, but I certainly appreciate a rustic vibe when being treated to it. After our meeting, Ellen and I rolled up our sleeves with the other gals and set about plating up all the food, got the kids started, and then set up our own adult table for a relaxing gossipy lunch in the July sunshine.

girls lunchI loved her old school glassware – similar water tumblers from Designer Guild here. Her blue water jug caught my eye, here’s a similar vibe one from Linea.

girls lunchBeing the artsy type, Colette has some awesomely funky crockery from rustic to vintage and beyond. She makes her own oil & vinegar dressings each year – we were clearly running short of the 2014 batch.

Girls lunch turned into gallery snooping…

We had the chance to snoop at Colette’s current work which she displays in her country kitchen and often has open studios. We’ve got the coolest fruit picture in my kitchen which we bought from one of her open studio days – her work looks great in any setting, whether you’re a contemporary or classic chick. Check out her Facebook page here for more of her work.

Colette has a fab sense of style. She’s not afraid of colours and loves to mix up her textures. This sheer blouse she’s wearing is her latest find from one of those uber chic consignment stores in Kensington. What with Victoria Beckham jumping on the pre-loved band wagon with her upcoming sale on The Outnet (all for ‘charidee’ of course) the rise of the resale market is on the up and up.

When I was living in New York and had a posh ‘do’ to attend, but the bank balance was looking a tad peaky, I would head straight to the consignment stores to pick out something designer at a knock down price. Take a look at more pre-loved fashion at one of my fave consignment online stores BuyMyWardrobe.com, which is busting at the seams with great picks for a pretty price.
