How to style check trousers.

If you’ve been keeping a weather eye on the winter trends of late you may well have noticed that right up there amongst them is the heritage trend. For this read anything remotely classic on the fabric front from tweed to check to houndstooth and herringbone and beyond. I love a bit of tweed as much as the next gal, but my go-to winter fabric has got to be check, so this season I’m all over check trousers and today’s blog post is all about how to style them.

My favourite version of any pair of pants is a crop style, so when I spotted these J.Crew check trousers, they were an instant hit. They have a slight give in the fabric which means they are super comfy all day (whatever you’re up to) and for me, they are the perfect crop length. I’ve styled them here with a slogan tee, a cotton hoodie and blazer, and some sparkly block heels.

This season heritage check trousers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, so there’s something out there for everyone. They’re genius for all sorts of occasions from good old office wear right through to grounding casual separates on the weekend if you want to look a little more pulled together. If you’re opting for a slim fit or tapered crop pair like mine, you can sport them with a matching jacket and a blouse for the office by day, or switch the blouse for a slogan tee for the weekend. They work well with this season’s backless loafers if you manage to catch a crisp Autumnal day, or you can harden them up with white ankle boots (yes they’re a thing this season too) once the winter kicks in.

J.Crew check trousers (similar here), Next grey hoodie, Next single-breasted jacket, Club Monaco slogan tee, J.Crew bag and shoes (old).

For wide leg versions opt for an oversized knit and sneakers by day or sharpen up the look by pairing with a luxe jacket, silk cami and velvet heels for a night out with the gals. If you’re opting for wide leg crop check trousers, remember the key to a flattering hemline is to have the hem hit at the skinniest part of your calf – normally just below the calf but above the ankle.
