Lulu Liu AW14
Lulu Liu, who is originally from China but now based in London, has done her time interning with some big names like Alexander McQueen and Giles Deacon, and you can spot what she’s picked up from these master designers in her collection shown at the Fashion Scout venue during London Fashion Week.
For AW14 Lulu Liu took her inspiration from her Chinese roots, creating looks which referenced Empress Cixi from the Qing Dynasty. She had fun with the colour palettes and rich textures typical of that period, yet threw in her own modern-miss take on it.
She seems comfortable working with bold colours and intricate patterns alike, whilst incorporating ruffles, pleating and piece work details into bold contemporary looks comes as second nature to her. I loved the long layering coats nipped in with simple belts, as well as modern-day suit sets which flattered the female form without being too traditional and stuffy.
The iridescent glow of this look was beautiful up close…
Scarf details were a big feature balancing out bold statement coats and tops …
There was definitely an East meets West vibe in the patterns she created…
Having seen all the mad colours on offer, my favourite looks were the less busy ones, like these white pieces…
Cutest look of the day had to go to this little geezer though…
