NYE event dresses to check out

The next big night on the social calendar is looming, and once you’ve scraped your enthusiasm together after all that turkey overindulgence, it seems it might be time to squeeze yourself into a little NYE event dress to nail the occasion. The good new is that the sales have started and if you didn’t have something already nestled in your closet in one of those ‘oh this old thing’ moments, then there’s plenty out there to choose from which you can get delivered straight to your door before the weekend.

We talked party dresses the other week and how to find the perfect style for you (read that post here). But if you’re having to push the boat out and head into that evening gown level then there are also plenty of affordable brands who you can channel your inner Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe through to look like you wear this kind of stuff every week. For me, those brands are currently Solace London (check out my post on summer event dresses which included one of their fab items here). Or another fave is Needle & Thread who are amazing at embellished dresses – if you haven’t checked these guys out yet, I promise you it feels like you’re wearing Alice Temperley, but you’ve only chucked half the kids’ school fees at it and not the whole lot…huzzah!

The other thing I’m loving about Solace London right now is their choice of asymmetric styles which are genius for adding curves where they once were. The pieces are generally made from sturdy satins which hold lots of wobbly bits in place whilst you’re wearing the garment – perfect for post-Chrimbo silhouette control without having to cut out the fridge full of leftovers.

I’m an absolute convert to buying online when I really can’t be bothered to schlepp out to the shops… especially if all the rest of the world are there right now snapping up New Year sales bargains. So I tend to stick to a couple of stores who I know can deliver out to the sticks in time for whichever event I’m shopping for. One of those is Selfridges.  I signed up to their Selfridges + programme this festive season and found myself nabbing amazing last minute gifts and stocking fillers right up until the last few days of their postal cut off knowing that they would be with me by the next day – totally saved my bacon and at £15 per year totally worth it.
