Rachel Comey x Matches Fashion event
You know when a designer comes along who makes you sit up and take notice, well these past few seasons I’ve been overly besotted with the Rachel Comey collections, and in particular her summer and pre-fall offerings. So, when the team at Matches Fashion asked me to pop in and view the collection at their prestigious No.23 townhouse, as well as get the chance to meet the designer herself, I was on my way quicker than you can do up the third strap of your Valentino Rockstuds.
The evening started off (as do all good evenings of late it seems) with a cocktail or two served up on the ground floor of the townhouse, as guests mingled talking all things fashion and pre-fall…
With glasses charged, it was then on up to the first floor to view the collection passing this little cutie along the way…

Rachel Comey designs the kind of clothes that us women like to wear. It’s not all about shoving you into a body-con sheath or making you dress like a dude. Comey uses her considerable design skills to craft wearable pieces which have you feeling like you could head for a cocktail at the arts club, task a team to solve the energy crisis or equally jump in the car on the school run – whichever took your fancy first.
There’s an insouciant elegance about the collection for the upcoming season. Yes, there’s a nod to the 70’s with easy silhouettes and plenty of denim to fill your comfort zone ticket, but there are also the most amazing oversize coats and textured garments, with pleasing finishes and quirky styling tricks. Loved this Islip trench nylon dress with its oversized fit but sassy cinching detail.
Was also quite taken with the detail on this oversized Rodea chinoiserie-woven coat. Slouchy heaven all wrapped up in a blend of jute, alpaca, mohair and wool.
My partner in crime Natascha tried it on for size, and it wasn’t until I looked at all my images from the evening that I noticed I’d taken a zillion more pics of this one coat than anything else… I think it was speaking to me…?
Of course, there’s always space in my heart for a little frayed denim and a shirt dress or two…
Along with this summer vacay friendly crochet dress.
As well as any number of next season gorgeous coats to keep your interest piqued beyond the warmer months.
All in all there’s something here for everyone – especially you Lizzy Wilson in Sydney… this stuff has your name written all over it…. get shopping!
With thanks to Rachel Comey and Matches Fashion for a lovely evening.
