Shearling jacket … the why’s & wherefores
It’s been a pretty mild winter so far in London, but if I were still in New York, I know I would have been all over this trend way before the polar vortex came to town. The shearling jacket has been tip-toeing around the trend charts for the last few seasons. Somewhere on your outfit choice between a biker jacket and a full on winter fleece, it’s a fair weather winter coat which likes to come out to play on a frosty chilly day like today.
My first memory of a shearling jacket is the one my dad used to wear to watch Wales play rugby back in the day in Cardiff. I recently found it in my mum’s attic and smuggled it back home. It’s a genius oversized 1950’s number which I managed to wear a couple of times until my teen son clocked it, and now it seems to be attached to him.
Not to be thwarted by this strike of bad luck in the teen son sartorial choices department, and finally agreeing that my dad’s vintage coat is indeed much cooler on no.1 son than on me, it then became my sales mission to snag a modern day shearling jacket to call my very own.
Shearling jacket … how to wear it
I plumped for an oversize shearling jacket from Acne – it’s actually a size 10 so is supposed to look super sized. I found it in my favorite Matches store in Richmond, where it winked at me from the sales rack. The Outnet is a fab place to search for on sale shearling…
I’ve paired it with some pastels and pinks. I love these MiH blush skinny jeans, you can find similar here.
I’ve also dipped into my Boden catalogue of late – this spotty graphic top is a great shape to go with trousers or skirts and comes in an array of different patterns/colour combos. Add a skinny blush J.Crew belt, Sisco & Berluti beaded bracelets and my pink Chloe studded boots from a few seasons back… similar here in a different color.
Finally I found this awesome fur trappers hat in the Farfetch sale… all I need now is snow!
I just found this pile of shearling jackets from various high street hero stores which are easy on the eye and even easier on the purse strings … take a dip
