Shirttail sweater … the low down.
If you’ve been keeping a weather eye on the new autumn stocks which are tumbling into stores right now, you might have spotted a cute little micro-trend which is perfect for both the office or the weekend. Step forward the shirttail sweater – the progeny of summer layering meets fall knits, and an excellent lazy styling tool for those who want to work both looks but hate the hassle of chucking on two things.
You know that annoying moment when you are struck by the need to layer? Your mind flips back to those images you’ve seen in the fashion mags, where the skinny model just rocks a cute sweater & shirt just popping out from underneath – but when you try it, that shirt is actually quite lumpy looking under your knit, and you’re not quite pulling ‘insouciant style’ off? Well that’s the exact moment when you reach for one of these little genius shirttail sweater babies.
Shirttail sweater … how to wear it.
For me the shirttail sweater is definitely an all rounder. I’m planning on pairing this fab J.Crew shirttail sweater with cute slimline crop pants for the office – like these bistro pants from Boden, or working it equally well with my distressed skinny jeans on the weekend. Try it with a pencil skirt or culottes, but make certain whatever you have on your bottom half is sleek and simple, to ensure you’re actually gaining the benefit of the layering look you are trying to achieve.
I’m all over fall colors – charcoal grey is definitely my new black. I also love the clean lines on this J.Crew regent blazer. I’m also a complete brogues addict (no matter what time of year we’re in) – these Adieu brogues fit the ‘transitional wardrobe’ bill perfectly. Still light enough to hanker after that Indian summer we might be enjoying, but sturdy enough to hop through the inevitable puddles heading our way too.
I’ve added this Lisa King scarf – a fab London based print designer, who I’m excited to be heading out to meet later in the week. Check back on the blog for a sneak peek behind the scenes of her studio next week.
Finally a little more autumnal colour with this Tory Burch calf hair cuff and Katie Rowland bling ring. As weel as this neutral but roomy leather tote from Halston Heritage.
