Silent Pool Gin

Silent Pool Gin – Saturday secret

Shhh…I’m going to let you into a little secret which I’ve uncovered thanks to some well-appointed and tasteful friends… there’s a little gin joint in our neighbourhood which is fast becoming the place to snap up your weekend tipple. Silent Pool Gin is my new favourite weekend indulgence. Nestled in a quiet corner of the Surrey Hills (just after the breathtaking view of Newlands Corner… or the crippling challenge of Newlands Corner depending on whether you’re approaching it by car or on your trusty bike) you can find Silent Pool Distillers who have set up a boutique distillery using the crystal clear water from Silent Pool spring.

Making the most of the deep, natural chalk aquifer the distillery sits on the bank of this tranquil pool and uses water from there to create its award-winning gin, liqueurs. vodka and Eau De Vies. I popped in there the other day to take a peek at what all the locals are buzzing about. You can actually take a tour of the distillery with their 90-minute gin experience – check out their website here for more details on timings and availability.

I don’t know much about the gin process itself, but it smelled pretty good in there, as the distillers got to work on the bottling process which is all done on site. Check out the thoroughly gorgeous bottles and glasses too….

In our family, the weekend is the perfect time for a tipple of gin, so rest assured we will be road-testing some more from this delightful bottle this very day.

You don’t have to live in the Surrey Hills to try Silent Pool Gin out, there’s a list of stockists nationwide here. Or check which of your nearest Majestic Wine stores stocks it hereRight – I’m off to check whether the sun has passed the yard-arm yet….
