Silk tops to elevate your summer look.
It’s fair to say my regular old uniform can be nailed down to a pair of jeans and a tee during the summer. But more recently having just refreshed and rebooted my wardrobe for the new season, and having found a plethora of silk tops which I keep buying and then fail to wear, my new mantra is going to be ‘if in doubt wear the silk top’.
J.Crew off-the-shoulder top, J.Brand Selena jeans, Rae Feather monogrammed clutch, J.Crew satin colour block heels.
I had no idea I’d been hoarding so many of these cuties, but my magpie eye is clearly drawn to the luxe end of the scale when I’m out shopping or surfing the web (i.e. most days). In years gone by I would have saved the expensive pieces in my closet for special occasion wear, but these days you can pick up a silk top from the high street at a great price and pop it through a gentle wash on your machine so those old massive dry cleaning bills can be avoided too.
I paired my J.Crew pink silk off-the-shoulder top with J.Brand Selena jeans and these gorgeous J.Crew satin block heels. I’ve become a huge fan of anything off-the-shoulder these past few seasons, not least because they are universally flattering – even for someone like me who has wider shoulders than hips. But I’ve also come to the conclusion that flashing a little flesh in mid-life can still be done if you’re flashing the right bits!
My Rae Feather monogrammed clutch is in its third season and still looking good – you can see more of the lovely Rae Feather collection in this post here where I visited her pop-up shop in Belgravia last week.
Silk tops for summer… where to shop.
So there is a diverse range of silk tops out there and whichever price point you opt in at, you can certainly bag a seasonal winner. Think silk-mix for more wearability and look out for on-trend add-ons like off-the-shoulder, bell sleeves, ruffles and floral prints.
