Skort for spring … what to wear this week

Skort … the skinny.

I’ve had a bit of a thing about the skort for the past few seasons, ever since I happened upon the cutest floral print one from Tibi, which I wore to death with anything from workwear to weekend wear all last summer. The poor thing was only just able to survive the season as it limped into the back of my wardrobe for it’s winter hibernation. The old ‘cost per wear’ equation had definitely moved into the pennies and cents league by the time I’d done with it.

I caught sight of it the other week when I was having a good old spring clean, spurred on by a visit to the Buy My Wardrobe gang (where a lot of my late summer items got deposited). As my pile of pre-loved pieces destined for resale grew, my hand hovered over the skort. It winked at me seductively again, and begged to stay in it’s cozy closet. So, knowing full well it will do me proud for another season, I placed it back in the wardrobe to await the onslaught of this spring.

This whole heart-rending ‘should I keep it or sell it’ conundrum got me to thinking, there must be oodles of other glorious skort opportunities out there. There’s something innately practical about a skort. It’s full of trickery with it’s I’m-a-skirt-but-not-a-skirt game going on, which makes it the perfect choice for nearly any occasion.

Skort … how to wear it.

The great thing about a skort (providing you’re not sporting it way high on the hips in a scary inappropriate way) is that you can get away with it for the office. I love this Miss Selfridge cutie, it squeaks demure but screams spring with it’s ballsy pink hue. The slight asymmetric kick that most skorts have is a figure boosting no-brainer, offering you a natural nipped in waist and slimline hips.

I’ve paired mine with this gorgeous J.Crew blazer in grey – which I love as a neutral foil for spring, along with an Iris & Ink suede top.

More J.crew loveliness in the form of these spring-ready slink backs. A touch of gritty glam with an Alexander McQueen scarf. Then some dainty pastel accessories to pull it all together.
