Sophie Hulme new season lust.
I’ve been slightly addicted to anything Sophie Hulme for a few years. I first fell for a sweet little orange envelope cross-body bag one summer and have slowly collected her bags in varying shapes, shades and sizes ever since. Launching her label in 2007 the designer has carved herself a niche as the go-to brand to find minimal silhouettes combining innovative engineering with quirky seasonal updates.
For the upcoming season, the Sophie Hulme collection has taken some fun elements and incorporated them in fastenings in gold-plated and bronze designs. The Catch collection uses quirky everyday details like straws, whistles and cocktail stirrers which are the functional locking piece of the bag, seamlessly matching form and function and allowing you to carry the bag from everyday life through to an evening out.
Previous collections have encompassed all sorts of glorious little details on the smooth saddle leather bags that we have come to expect from this designer. Another of my favourites is her charm collection. Incorporating the idea of 19th Century chatelaines, the designer took the notion of chains which attached to a belt and carried essentials like a needle, thread and thimble for a seamstress; keys, notebook, pencil for a housekeeper. She interpreted it into a modern translation. A charm chain – a genius idea to take the traditional charm collection concept and apply it to bag accessories to collect as you go.
