Spring pastels … trends to try

Spring pastels … what’s the scoop?

For those of us gagging for this rainy winter to be over, you’ll be pleased to know that stores have just received their first spring collections. One of my fave trends for the upcoming season, and one which is certainly a winner for boosting the winter blues is spring pastels.

I love a pastel at the best of times, but this spring they are set to hit us in all manner of shapes and styles. What with trends like sports luxe, feisty florals, embroidery and artsy looks on the horizon, it’s going to be tricky to define the best way to wear your pastels.

I was scooting through my local House of Fraser yesterday after a quick coffee with a buddy and couldn’t quite make it out without a little spring pastel something in my possession. These colours just make you feel like it’s springtime already even though the Ground Hog has declared we’ve got 6 more weeks of winter…

Spring Pastels … how to wear them

Spring pastels give you the perfect opportunity to work some colour blocking into your closet. You can either mix up a series of differing hues or pair different tones together.

For me, wearing a darker tone on top and a lighter one on the bottom helps sort out my proportions, as I have a bigger top half than bottom half. The eye is fooled into thinking the darker color is more slimming than the lighter one, which is a great trick to remember. You can work the same tip equally well with a mash up of pastel shades – just make sure you pop the darker color on your less forgiving parts.

I road tested my spring pastels with a luxe pair of tapered pants from French Connection. They come up pretty big so size down if you are tempted to snag a pair. I added this Whistles sweater (which was the item I couldn’t walk away from in House of Fraser).

My layering fetish continues, so I snuck this cute J.Crew gingham shirt on under the sweater… what doesn’t scream spring more than gingham?? Similar shirt here. The bag is 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 hour bag from a few seasons ago, but there’s a cream one here. The leather jacket is a Whistles one but similar this season one’s here. I also spotted an awesome pastel leather jacket from Zara here.

The necklace is J.Crew … similar here. Bracelets Sisco & Berluti and J.Crew. Heels Nicholas Kirkwood, which I found on sale at The Outnet… but some new season ones here.
