Statement shirts … who’s in?
For me this spring’s statement shirts are a witty alternative to the drudge of the office appropriate button down. All that in-your-face print or embellishment is not only a conversation starter as you rock up to the coffee machine, it’s a downright call to action for a comment or a quip. Just when you thought office ready wear was all about the banal monochrome … as many a high street store is trying to shove down your throat … up pops the statement shirt to drag you kicking and screaming into showing a little personality.
Statement shirts don’t have to be all about the modern print or current floral trend. There’s something undeniably retro about some of the cuties on offer for spring. Think artsy prints, studs and bejeweling, as well as a truck-load of bright funky detailing.

Statement Shirts … how to wear them.
If you’re planning on working the statement shirts into your wardrobe for spring, there are a couple of pointers to take note of. Although mixed prints have been spotted on numerous runways, it’s a tough look to pull off unless you’re 6 foot, svelte and built like a gazelle. Stick to one bold pattern per outfit for best results.
I like to pair my statement shirts with simple outfit choices. A figure flattering pencil skirt and skinny heeled pumps shows off a statement shirt to best effect. If you’re more of a pants person, think cropped capri pants, pointy flats and a nipped in blazer for a preppy take on the vibe. When the weather hots up, throw on some shorts to update the look for warmer climes.
