Striped skirts … what to wear this week.

Striped skirts … spring ready trend.

For me there’s nothing that screams spring more than a nautical stripe or two, but having had my fill of striped tops over the last few seasons I’ve been casting my eye around for something which is going to tick the ‘stripe’ box in a new way. Step forward one of the slew of striped skirts which have been popping up in stores recently, and especially this cutie from New York based designer Tanya Taylor.

Taylor had been designing for Elizabeth & James for a number of years prior to stepping out solo with her own collection. Her Spring/Summer 14 looks have a jaunty vibe about them and are perfect for perking up a tired old wardrobe with a fun spring theme.

Striped skirts … how to wear them.

I’ve paired this delicious skirt with a simple boyfriend v-neck sweater from J.Crew and a fun sculpted jacket from Whistles. A pair of metallic sandals (these from J.Crew) are a must-have for spring, whilst this awesome Shrimps faux fur Grayson bag was a stand out accessory for many an editor and celeb blogger at London Fashion Week in February.

As with any stripe or pattern, the smaller the detail the less overpowering the look. When picking pattern, stick to small-scale if you are on the diminutive side. Luckily the striped skirts for this season are mostly working their stripes on the thin side, which means your lower half will not be fighting a losing battle with the ‘does my bum look big in this’ dilemma.
