Summer striped maxi skirts… what’s the scoop?
I’ve only been a more recent convert to the maxi movement, but once I’d clocked that they can cover up all manner of sins whilst still screaming summer lazy day dressing, I was all in. Amongst my fave incarnations are the summer striped maxi skirts, which have me
imagining I’m sauntering down the boardwalk in St Tropez, heading for a glass of Rosé at a beachside cafe.
The other day whilst ignoring the immense pile of summer vacation washing, which is still winking at me from my utility room, I took time out to head to a lunch date with gal pals…more of that in another post soon… I’d been sporting shorts throughout our recent family hols in Turkey, and was just about ready to get back to the real world, so I opted for this cute J.Crew summer striped number.
Being slightly on the underwhelming side when it comes to a height chart, I’d always thought maxi skirts would just look bizarre. But this J.Crew one has a hemlinen which hits just right, without me having to do that dull hoicking up of waistline to enable me to actually walk without tripping over my own feet.
A bunch of the high street stores offer petite ranges these days, it’s always worth taking a peek online – scope out J.Crew, J Brand, Banana Republic, Next and Topshop for on trend petite items.
I don’t know about you but I always opt for blousy loose fit things when the temperature gauge cranks up – it’s way too much bother to attempt wriggling into any tight fitting tank on super hot days.
Apart from figuring out what to wear in this weirdly (for the UK) humid weather, we’ve also got a new puppy to deal with. Say hello to Scout, the great nephew of our old golden retriever who passed away last summer at the ripe old age of 14, after reaching the heady accolade of oldest dog on the hill. As expected, young Scout is a bit of a handful, but it’s been perfect weather for having him lollop around in the garden.
Another thing I learnt this vacation, is that my awesome teen daughter & nieces are definitely pros when it comes to managing hot weather hair. I spent a sneaky bunch of time perusing the way they threw their hair into easy up-do’s, and came to the conclusion it was because they have oodles more length than me. One of my holiday resolutions is to grow my hair a little more, so that I can achieve that look rather than my scrawny looking old school plait.
Hat is Eric Javitz squishee classic fedora, which I love to travel with. It blocks out up to 95% UVA/UVB rays and is easy to pack. Silk cami is J.Crew, bracelet Chan Luu and watch Ice.
My ‘go-to’ summer sneaker – classic Supergas. Similar here.
