This season you need… a suede jacket

The Suede Jacket you need this season.

So the SS18 trends may well have been set months ago by the great and the good of the fash world, but there are always a couple of creepers that loiter around on the periphery and somehow blossom into a micro-trend whilst we’re not looking. This season step forward the suede jacket. A softer version of the leather biker and a distant cousin to the good old denim jacket which is having a bit of renaissance this summer too.

I’ve had my eye on the amazing Acne Studios trucker jacket, but sadly with hubs being in fiscal prudence mode, it’s not on my radar. Instead, I’ve tracked down this cutie via ASOS which is the same 50’s crop shape and a little more vibrant in a seasonal yellow hue.

The great thing about a suede jacket is that your colour choice is more varied, so it’s a great opportunity to play with a spot of colour and also to road test some of this season’s trends like pastels or zesty brights. They come in at a slightly lower price point than a leather jacket, and if you opt for a faux suede, then they are super affordable. Also animal-friendly faux suede comes with the added advantage of being easier to keep clean as regular suede is sensitive to water.

This cutie is from ASOS, and I’ve paired it here with a CamiNYC camisole (yes that’s a ‘thing’ this season too… see this previous post), these Vince wide leg pants, Gola sneakers from J.Crew and this fab The White Company summer basket. The crop suede jacket is also a winner when it comes to playing with body shape proportions. Coming from the lesser-spotted-short-leg variety of humans, a cropped jacket has magical leg-lengthening powers… or at least fools the eye into thinking you are slightly taller than you may actually be.

Suede Jacket… where to shop.

This season’s jackets come in biker, bomber, western or 50’s trucker crop form and go well with either a maxi dress or your favourite wide-leg pants. I always hanker after the trucker style as I love that retro vibe, but there are plenty out there to snap up. There are also a pile of great pastel ones which have caught my eye and might be worth a perusal. Here’s an edit at some of my faves out there. Click the images to shop.
