Transitional coats for weird un-wintery weather
If like me you’re finding this winter thus far a bit of a let down on the wrap-up-warm-to-avoid-chilblains front, then it’s time to start scouting out transitional coats which are perfect for dealing with dull winter mid temp days and will work right through to when spring is supposed to be springing… although judging by the daffs in my garden they think it’s time to start blooming this very week.
I found this gorgeous bouclé coat nestling in Club Monaco just before the festive season and snapped it up immediately. Totally impractical for the Surrey Hills but fab for dressing up my daily winter uniform of boyfriend jeans and roll neck sweaters. The roll neck here is by Kit and Ace uber warm and cozy. The boots are Rupert Sanderson from a season or two ago and seemed kind of appropriate today with the sad news of David Bowie passing away – I think he would have approved of them somehow…
Transitional Coats… what to look for
So what to look for in a transitional coat? Think wool or wool-blend with a pinch of padding for slight insulation just in case the temperatures dip, but not too much to make you feel like you’re all set for a weekend in the Arctic. An oversized, belted or drapey style works well as you can layer a gilet or denim/biker jacket underneath if you need some extra warmth… and tick off a key SS16 micro trend in the same instance – huzzah!
