Tuesday’s Trends… oversized clutch bags

If, like me, you can’t get out of the house without half your posessions jammed into your bag, then here’s the perfect clutch bag trend for you. Step forward the oversized clutch, all dandied up for the Holiday season.

Granted, the transition to a clutch is a big ask for hoarders like myself – who knows when that umbrella lying at the bottom of your tote might be called for. Not to mention those blister plasters lurking next to the Eve Lom lip balm in the zipper pouch. But seriously, given a little editing, a gal can get away with most of her essentials in one of these oversized bad boys for a night.

You don’t have to go throwing the bank balance at it either. High street stores are hot on this trend and you can snag the perfect purse at a great price.

This is one of those trends you can have double whammy trend fun with. The one I opted for from Whistles is navy (check the navy trend) and calf-hair (check the fur trim trend).

You could rock the monochrome trend with this ASOS number.  The 3.1 Phillip Lim animal print clutch takes on a new season spin in blue, whilst the McQ Alexander McQueen one ticks the printed leather box. Sophie Hulme’s floral clutch hits the perfect on trend note, and Mary Katrantzou’s river print clutch screams ‘statement piece’. High street hero’s  Topshop and Banana Republic come up trumps with their stud and snakeskin versions of the trend. And French Connection nail the graphic vibe with this cute check one.

Oversized Clutches to Covet

All this oversized everything this season is all very well and good, but the key to getting it right is to think about your proportions. If you’re on the short side like me, take a look in the mirror when you’re choosing your clutch. Make sure it doesn’t swamp you and make you look like you’re about to be an extra Munchkin in the latest remake of the Wizard of Oz.
