I’ve always been a great advocate of any trend that involves a cardi, and thanks to this unseasonal cold snap it could be time to pull out your Fall trends ahead of Labor Day. Added to that the onset of ‘sale season’, now is the perfect time to snag a knit which will see you through from summer to fall.
As with all good trends, there’s something here for everyone. It’s just a matter of working with your body type and your style ID to figure out which one is best for you. So let’s break it down to the basic styles out there ripe for the picking.
There’s the ‘cardi as coat’ style which comes in this oversized version from Michael Kors, perfect for those days when you skipped the spin class but stuck with the donut regime.
This great shaggy version from Blumarine, which reminds me of a poncho I was once forced to wear, aged 7, to the sunday school christmas party…ahhh good times! The blue hue of this baby will get you extra points for choosing a hot on trend colour for Fall.
You can also amp up your cardi for evening wear – this divine floor sweeping knit from DSquared would be the perfect addition to that gown you were going to wear for next season’s Holiday parties. Just ensure you fix the hemline prior to stepping out as this one comes with a ‘heel tangle nightmare’ alert.
For more office appropriate pieces, look no further than the slew of patterned cardi’s heading our way. Remember, mixing up your prints is not just a summer sport and is quite acceptable for Fall according to Clements Ribeiro;
Emporio Armani is the place to find a little colour blocking for your workwear cardi.
Whilst Anna Sui and Meadham Kirchoff are advocating a little 60’s edge to their day time patterned knits.
For more of a weekend slouch worthy approach, take a peek at designers like Band of Outsiders, Saint Laurent and Tsumori Chisato. Think post 80’s meets boho with a twist of grunge and you’ll have the look nailed.
