Valentines date … ultimate date night dressing trauma
Whether you’ve been seeing your better half for the thick end of half a century or it’s your very first date, there’s something about a Valentines date which has many of us getting in all of a tizzy about what to wear.
Date night pressure often makes you feel like you need to amp up the va-va-voom factor in order to illicit a romantic response. But first and foremost, it’s more important to feel comfortable and confident in your own style on Cupid’s big night; rather than choosing this occasion, to try something out in left field on the sartorial front.
On an average day I’m more about comfort dressing versus high maintenance fashion, but with Valentines looming I definitely start feeling the need to ferret in the back of my closet to pull together that mythical perfect look. I’ll bet I’m not the only one who can still fall prey to that sense of nausea when you realize the outfit dreamed up in your head this morning just isn’t working, and you only have five minutes to get out of the door.
For that reason alone, it’s best to stick to the style formula which you know suits you, but the key to elevating your look from the every day is to play with fabrics, texture and accessory choices.

Valentines date … amping up your look
For me it’s all about trousers – though I’ve got a ton of skirts and dresses hoarded away in my closet, my default choice is always a pair of pants. So with Valentines in mind, I’ll be opting for these luxe jacquard J.Crew cuties as the statement piece for my outfit.
With this spring set to be the season we embrace all things off-the-shoulder, I’m also loving this Tibi off-the-shoulder top. I’ve added this Muubaa biker jacket and Charlotte Olympia satin heels for a nice mash up of tough and delicate textures.
The Matthew Williamson scarf just makes me smile on a dreary winter day, whilst the bling in the Elizabeth Cole necklace adds a glam factor. Finally, a handy DVF clutch pulls the whole look together.
So whether you are headed to the much anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey screening or simply having a quiet date night, remember to dress for yourself first and the rest will be a breeze.
