If you had Victoria Beckham pegged as one of those designers who punts out super structured shift dresses in tiny sizes for an elite market of red carpet crazed celebs, it’s time to think again.
When I popped into her Fall 13 presentation recently in Mayfair, the first thing that hit me (apart from the classy old school salon vibe of the presentation), was the range of styles on offer.
Yes, we’ve all seen those signature Roland Moret lookey likey dresses, but apart from the odd one or two in the current collection, she’s moved on from that.
With her Ready To Wear looks shown alongside her Victoria, Victoria Beckham diffusion line, now in its fourth season, the brand is offering both high end and affordable pieces which would be a welcome addition to any gals closet.
Having only seen a smattering of her pieces on Net-a-Porter when I was living in New York, it wasn’t until I returned to London and started to see her designs in the flesh in stores, that I began to notice there is more to this brand than meets the eye.
For the season ahead there are a few frocks for the Upper East Side ladies who lunch, but there’s also a fair smattering of on trend tunics and Jackie ‘O’ style shifts in anything from British heritage tweeds and plaids through to laser cut silks, jersey knits, jacquard and felt.
A big shout out for her accessories for Fall. Bright pops of yellow and red in simple but classic shapes were a winner. If you don’t have the wherewithal to invest big time in this brand – a clutch or a zip pouch cross body bag would be a great place to start tinkering.
Of course there’s the de rigueur biker jacket for Fall – but hers came in a gorgeous navy with a fur collar which went straight on my hit list. As well as a touch of ponyskin which seems to be gracing the collections of every single designer I’ve seen this press month.
All in all, even though I’ve been a bit of a doubter, I think VB has come a long way – for Fall 13 the girl done good.
