What to Wear this Week… PVC edit

If you’d have told me last winter I would be seriously considering PVC as an office staple for the season ahead, I would have pegged you as one of those Fifty Shades fanatics and handed you a gimp mask for your collection.

Whilst in the past we’ve seen bags and shoes sporting a little rubber detail here and there, this time around some designers have been flirting with the super goth/highly vilified fabric. Let’s face it, if Burberry showed it all over their catwalk in skirts and their signature trench coats, it won’t be long before high street brands are following suit.

To ensure your PVC piece is office appropriate, you need to step away from the much maligned black for fear of being piegon-holed as the standout volunteer organizer for the next office tarts and vicars party. Instead try one of fall’s key colour trends like this delicious Burberry Prorsum oxblood pencil skirt. To counterbalance the raunchy aspect of your sartorial choice in the office, pair with another new season must-have like this fluffy Topshop sweater and you have a nice little demure monotone look going on.

When wearing any rubber item there are two caveats you must bear in mind. Firstly if it’s a warm day prepare to sweat miserably whilst you are pulling off this edgy look. Secondly, ensure your underpinnings are appropriately robust in order to protect your modesty from your work colleagues; unless that is you are trying to engineer a Bridget Jones lurid office-wear moment as part of your charm offensive on the boss…
